WOLVES: Thousands killed in silence by poaching, poisoning, and road accidents

1 April 2026 – Green Impact, together with four other organisations — Federazione Pro Natura Italia, Animal Aid Italia, Attivisti Gruppo Randagio, and Alleanza Antispecista — issued a statement denouncing the silent death of thousands of wolves in Italy due to poaching, poisoning, and road accidents. They called on Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin to provide a clear denial of any proposal to authorise the killing of wolves in Italy.

Following reports concerning a possible cull of 160 wolves suggested by ISPRA — allegedly without any scientific or legal basis — the organisations are calling for plans to combat environmental crimes against wildlife, mandatory preventive measures to reduce livestock predation, funded by the EU with millions of euros, and an effective national compensation system for damages.
